General Information ~ 2010 Show
Pauline Whitaker Animal Science Arena

Our Alpacas in the Ozarks Halter and Fleece Show will be held at the Pauline Whitaker Animal Science Arena in Fayetteville, Arkansas. The arena is conveniently located on the University of Arkansas Campus approximately one mile off Interstate 540.  This entire arena is climate controlled.  It has a packed dirt floor, very large seating area, three large community classrooms for our seminars, a concession area, and a large foyer for some of our vendors.  Our visitors will be welcomed as they enter the Vendor Area in the foyer.
The arena has an open foyer with excellent lighting, which will provide a nice welcome for our visitors as well as a superb display area for some of the vendors.  For visitors, there is a huge, comfortable seating area.  For exhibitors, there is a packed dirt floor.  For all, there is a nice concession area with excellent food and refreshments.  For seminars and our catered event Saturday night, large community classrooms are available.
We invite all farms to help make this a quality show.  The show will be a Level II, exhibiting over 200 alpacas. To enhance your show experience, giving you an opportunity to take home many ribbons from the Alpacas in the Ozarks 2010 Show, we will present ribbons to the first through sixth places in each class.
Experienced AOBA Judge Sharon Loner will judge the Halter and Fleece Shows as well as the Youth Obstacle Event.

Alpacas in the Ozarks' entire menu of show fees and costs are the LOWEST of any show in the region. Check out these incredible prices:

Our goal is to have a quality show and several informative free seminars.

By limiting individual farm stalls (maximum of 4), Alpacas in the Ozarks provides great competition for smaller breeders and a meaningful assessment of your breeding program vs. your peers. Moderate class sizes allow for thorough evaluation of your alpacas and more useful commentary from the judge. This is a show where you truly have the opportunity to compete equally for ribbons and recognition!

Why is Alpacas in the Ozarks is held on Thanksgiving weekend? The majority of smaller breeders are tied to full-time jobs, making show attendance difficult without taking multiple extra days off from work. Our holiday weekend event allows many the flexibility of show participation with minimal impact on their regular work schedule and vacation accrual.

FIRST: Get those spin-off entires in the mail. Don't miss the September 14th deadline, it cannot be extended.

SECOND: Sign up for sponsorship and/or reserve your stall(s) now to lock in our low prices and insure a spot in our show. Only 125 stalls available... they will sell out!

THIRD: Mark your calendar to add enjoyment and friendly competition to your Thanksgiving weekend by joining your fellow breeders in Fayetteville, AR for the 5th Annual Alpacas in the Ozarks Regional Alpaca Show!

We know the current economic environment makes show attendance challenging, Don't miss out on the savings offered by Alpacas in the Ozarks!

Sign up early, stalls will be assigned accordingly.

Show Judge ~ Sharon Loner

Sharon Loner and her husband, Frank, purchased their first alpacas in 1993 and are the owners of Mile High Alpacas located in Parker, CO. Sharon soon learned that raising these beautiful animals was her calling and within three years she left her professional career to become an alpaca rancher full time.

Sharon is both AOBA and Internationally Certified to judge fleece and halter alpaca shows. In 2004 she completed her international training through the International Alpaca Judging School (IAJS) located in Peru by Maggie Krieger and Dr. Julio Sumar and that same year became AOBA certified. She remains an active farm member in the Alpaca Breeders of the Rockies (ABR) and has served as a director for the Alpaca Fiber Cooperative of North America (AFCNA).

Sharon graduated from North Dakota State University with a Bachelors Degree in Secondary Education and Textiles. Sharon and Frank have two daughters currently attending the University of Colorado located in Boulder, CO. She and Frank are enjoying the second phase in their lives as empty nesters.

Sharon’s goal while in the show ring is to see that every exhibitor and their alpaca are comfortable, relaxed, and at the same time having an enjoyable experience. She makes sure each and every alpaca is evaluated fairly and honestly on a comparative basis.

Registration & Forms
Sign up early, stalls will be assigned accordingly, first come, first served.  If you want to be located next to another farm, during online registration BOTH farms must clearly state the name of the farm next to which they wish to be adjacent.  THIS REQUEST CANNOT BE MADE ON DAY OF CHECK IN.  Stalls are 10’ x 10’, and a maximum of three adult alpacas per stall will be allowed.  The floor is a packed dirt floor.  Since straw is not permitted due to facility fire codes, we suggest a plastic mesh mat.  No farm displays will be allowed in the aisles due to fire codes.  Display stalls are limited to one per farm, and are available for the same price as an animal stall.

All alpacas must be registered and entered in the name of the current owner on the ARI Registration certificate.  A "Buyer’s Permission to Show" form showing the owner as listed on the ARI Registration certificate must be attached if an alpaca has been purchased and the transfer has not been completed.

Mandatory Health Requirements

BVD TESTING - AN IMPORTANT REMINDER
The AOBA Show System Office would like to remind and clarify to Show System members the following requirements concerning BVDV testing in all alpacas that enter any AOBA Certified Show.

There are only two acceptable methods for BVDV testing:  PCR (Polymerase Chain Reaction) and VI (Virus Isolation). Alpacas that have been tested by another method will not be allowed entry into any AOBA Certified Show.  IMPORTANT… All BVDV tests accomplished after 1/1/2010 MUST be PCR.  BVDV tests accomplished prior to 1/1/2010 may be PCR or VI.

This is a one - time test. For the purposes of any AOBA Certified Show, once this test has been done, it need not be repeated.

The veterinarian who completes the CVI (Certificate of Veterinary Inspection) must list the following information directly on the CVI:

                   • The negative BVDV result and date of lab test
                   • The METHOD of TESTING (PCR or VI)

A CVI that lacks any of the above information is incomplete, and the alpacas that are listed on the CVI will not be allowed entry into the Show. Requiring that each alpaca entering the venue of any AOBA Certified Show is BVDV negative, by the proper test method, ensures the protection of ALL alpacas at the show.

All alpacas must have a Certificate of Veterinary Inspection (CVI) written within 30 days of the last day of the show along with an entry permit.  Your veterinarian should call 501-907-2400 for entry permit.  Brucellosis and TB Tests are NOT required. Bring two copies of the CVI with you.  The CVI for each alpaca entering the arena must include the:

1.     Alpaca's full ARI name

2.     Microchip number

3.     Record of a negative BVDV test by PCR or VI and date of test.  All BVDV tests accomplished after 1/1/2010 MUST be PCR.  BVDV tests accomplished prior to 1/1/2010 may be PCR or VI.

Direct any questions to Cookie Bowers, at 918-327-3519 or Cookie@acresoflove.com.

Herdsire Breeding Auction
Our Herdsire Breeding Auction will feature some of the most elite males in our region.
We encourage farms to donate breedings for the auction. As a Thank You to all farms donating breedings, 60% will be returned to the breeder while only 40% will go to the show. Starting bids will be $1000.00 (minimum bid increments of $100), a great starting price as you will see by the pictures and descriptions of these quality males (on this page as they are received). The 60% will enable the herdsire owner to insure the female will be well taken care of and insure she is confirmed pregnant without undue cost to the owner.
Arrangements for delivery and contracts should be made between the owner and the successful bidder immediately after the auction closes.
A picture and a short description will appear here on this website as they are received.
